Baobab Abstract

Luanda, Angola

The baobab tree is endemic to South and East Africa. Their large trunks are adept at soaking up water to survive the dry spells that frequent this part of the world. In fact, Elephants know that if they can't find water, they can dig into a baobab tree and get some! In Portuguese speaking Angola, they are called Imbondeiro, and their trunks can be truly massive - more than 30 ft in diameter! This image is a close up of the base of a medium-sized Imbondeiro tree outside of Luanda, Angola in Africa, the folds in the tree look almost like human fingers.
